Easter Weekend - Calgary

Easter is a special time of year at The Mustard Seed – a time for us to come together to enjoy fellowship, community and great food, and to celebrate Christ’s incredible sacrifice and resurrection. Throughout the entire weekend, there are various events and activities for staff, volunteers, guests and program participants to take part in.

For many, the traditional Easter feast is the focus and highlight of the holiday, but it is only part of The Mustard Seed’s Easter tradition. A Maundy Thursday service with worship and readings will take place April 4 at 1pm, followed by the 7th annual Good Friday Way of the Cross walk.

Sometimes it is tempting to fast forward through the weekend and focus on the resurrection of Easter Sunday; however, that is only part of the story. Through the Maundy Thursday service and the Way of the Cross on Friday, we have the chance contemplate Christ’s sacrifice through readings, song and prayer. All are welcome to take part in The Mustard Seed’s Way of the Cross Walk (additional details here.)

Finally, on Sunday night a feast consisting of approximately 100 lbs of ham, 200 lbs of potatoes, as well as vegetables and a special dessert will be prepared at The Mustard Seed Shelter. Last year, volunteers served more than 400 meals, and similar numbers are expected again this Easter.

A special thank you to all of the volunteers,  including Apache Canada, the Redeemed Church of Christ and Rockpointe Church, who will join our staff, guests and program participants to create a truly special Easter weekend.

On behalf of all of us at The Mustard Seed, Happy Easter!
