Housing for the homeless
The Mustard Seed is providing those living in poverty with housing and support to get back on their feet. Allan is a prime example of someone who is looking forward to a better future.
Allan has struggled with alcoholism since his teens but says that his life took a turn for the worst after his mom passed away. His mom was his "leaning post," and without her, he didn't see how he could go on. That was when he found himself at The Mustard Seed.
Allan has no family connections and hasn't for many years, making building relationships with other tenants a necessity. His goal is to get off social assistance and back into the workforce. Having initially come to The Mustard Seed for evening meals, Allan is very pleased with his new apartment.
"Once you think The Mustard Seed has done everything possible, all of a sudden they have way more to offer," he says.
The "Housing for the Houseless" initiative at The Mustard Seed has been made possible through a partial grant from the provincial government.
