A Future
Kim had always been steadily employed but after 11 years of working as a purchasing secretary, she was laid off and given a buy out package. She began to suffer from high blood pressure and depression.
She had to obtain social services to pay for her medications, but every time she took a temp job she lost her social services plan.
Eventually she also lost her house, and with her reduced income, had to find shared accommodations. Finding good roommates proved very difficult, especially, she says, finding ones who were not involved with drugs.
Just over a year ago she found her way to The Mustard Seed.
“The Mustard Seed is just a great organization. I worked in facilities for ten months and Judith (a Mustard Seed Personal Resource Mentor) helped me a lot with setting goals.
I just can’t stress enough how the Mustard Seed gives you all of the resources you need. When you don’t have meds, food and shelter…it’s rough. I had no family out here, and you guys gave me that.”
Now, Kim has found a home and is working for a mining company as an accounting secretary.
“Everybody here made me feel that I was worth something. A year – that was all I needed.”
