A New Life

Gerard had worked for 16 years in body shop repair work until he fell into a world of drugs and crime.

He says, “I got out of jail in 2004 and I seemed to make a lot of wrong decisions. I couldn’t get it together. I used up all my avenues.”

Eventually, Gerard began pulling his life back together again. He says, “I found steady work and got into Step-Up [Housing] and then came Transitional Housing.” Living in The Mustard Seed’s housing programs has helped Gerard overcome his addictions and has helped him keep his job.

He also says, “Being a single guy, it’s hard to afford something by yourself.

"The Mustard Seed seemed to be the last stop on the block for me, if you know what I mean. If it wasn’t for The Mustard Seed – it’s a tough call to say where I’d be.
Coming off of cocaine, being broke, I didn’t know which way was up…not knowing if I’m going to have a bed at the end of the day. It helps me focus on my recovery. I can come home, cook a meal, close my door and do my prayers.”
