A New Self Image

Dylan says he didn’t see his drinking as a problem but he started noticing he was spending a lot of money on alcohol and was not socializing with other people. Our Overcoming Addictive Behaviors class helped him realize he had a problem.

Dylan says he was always a bit of a “loner” but his drinking was starting to make it worse. When he started taking the Overcoming Addictive Behavior class he says it helped him because a fellowship was established amongst the participants and it helped him understand more about how Christ cares for us.

He says, "Every time I went to a session, even though I felt growly, it didn’t take long to feel at peace. Having that fellowship with the people there and the Creator felt good.”

Curtis is our Chaplaincy Program Assistant at The Mustard Seed. He is also currently studying for his Master of Divinity at Ambrose Seminary. He facilitates the class and explains why he finds being around the students uplifting:

“I think [it’s that] they have to give everything of themselves to become sober…for a lot of us sobriety might be an easy thing and we might take it for granted but the way their whole life has to be committed to striving for that – it just encourages me.”

As for Dylan, it is one day at a time. He says, “It has given me a different view of things; a different attitude on the present. I’m more positive. It opened my eyes on Biblical teachings which has given me more strength.”
