About Us
For over 25 years, The Mustard Seed has worked to foster meaningful, lifelong change in the lives of Calgary's homeless. Together with our community, we care for the most essential and urgent needs of the homeless with food, clothing and shelter, while also providing the tools, training and community needed to help our guests rebuild broken lives and ultimately, realize the dream of a better future.
The Mustard Seed has grown from its humble beginnings as a coffeehouse ministry in Calgary's inner-city to a powerful provincial voice for the poor. Our three ministry centres across Alberta allow us to carry out our mission of providing compassionate care to the homeless:
The Mustard Seed Calgary
Meeting the most basic needs of the homeless is the first step to a changed life. The Mustard Seed Shelter cares for the essential needs of our guests through nutritious meals, emergency shelter and clothing provisions.
Our Centre Street ministry engages and equips guests through education, employment and skills training, personalized support and mentoring, health and wellness services, and arts and recreation programs. We also provide supported and transitional housing to help guests regain independence in a healthy, flourishing community.
AfterCare assists guests in finding sustainable, long-term independent housing and helps provide basic home startup packages for those moving out. Once a guest has moved into independent housing, AfterCare Workers continue to meet with them to ensure that they are set up for long-term independence.
The Mustard Seed Mountain Aire Lodge
In addition to our Calgary ministry centre, The Mustard Seed provides life-change opportunities for the homeless through its ministry at Mountain Aire Lodge near Sundre, AB. This unique ministry helps guests rebuild their lives through meaningful employment opportunities at the Lodge's various businesses. Program guests run and operate the various hospitality services at the Lodge, including a restaurant, motel, gas station, convenience store and the maintenance of six provincial campgrounds.
The Mustard Seed Edmonton
The Mustard Seed (Calgary) has recently partnered with The Mustard Seed Edmonton to provide far-reaching, expansive programs and services for the less fortunate. The Mustard Seed Edmonton is a Christian humanitarian organization that seeks to address poverty through partnering with the wider community. They care for the needs of the less fortunate through recreational programs, small groups, community education, meals and access to food hampers and personal items, correctional chaplaincy and spiritual support.
