I'm Lucky

ShelterEvery day, I walk up the steps to my house. I turn the key, open the door, and walk in. I give not even a thought about how truly blessed I am to have the life that I do. Tonight I went down to the Seed with a few friends to help out.

There were 300 men who would have been sleeping on the streets, if not for the shelter. Unimaginable, for a person like me, who has a bed. I think about that now--I turn those words over and over again in my head: I have a bed. I walked down the stairs to my room tonight. I opened the door and looked at my bed. I hope I never forget the feeling I had tonight as I looked down at my own bed: lucky, blessed, thankful, but why me?

Just because I was lucky enough to have been born into less obstacles than many of the men at the shelter, does not mean that I don't share in their problems.

If I really believe that we are all connected, then I really should be thinking more about how I can help. I really should be doing more.
