Music for a Winter Evening supports Affordable Housing
Calgary's Jack Singer Concert Hall was sold out on Dec. 15 for the 10th annual Music for a Winter Evening, where the Corpus Christi Male Chorale, joined by special guest Steve Bell, entertained the 1,800-person crowd with special holiday music.
The concert was held in support of The Mustard Seed's Affordable Housing Initiative, and was an incredible success as Calgarians joined with the performers and the event's sponsor, Legacy Kitchens, in an outpouring of generosity and compassion.
"We are tremendously grateful to Legacy Kitchens, tonight's performers and the hundreds of Calgarians who are helping to bring the dream of affordable housing for the less fortunate into reality," says Derek Fraser, Capital Campaign Director for The Mustard Seed.
Above and beyond record ticket sales, nearly $60,000 was donated on Wednesday night. In total, more than $100,000 was raised - enough money to fully furnish almost 30 of the housing units in The Mustard Seed's Affordable Housing development. Making the impact of those funds even greater, every $2,000 donated on Wednesday night will be matched by Legacy Kitchens, who generously committed to top off each fully-furnished unit with a kitchen.
Shine-a-Thon raises over $251,000
On Dec. 9, The Mustard Seed and Shine 88.9 FM set out to raise $250,000 to benefit our city's less fortunate through the 10th annual Shine-a-Thon.
Friendly volunteers manned the phones from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., and notable Calgarians called or stopped in throughout the day to keep the energy flowing. We even had a visit from Austin Powers!
At the end of the day, thanks to an incredibly outpouring of generosity from Calgarians, we were able to meet and exceed our goal, reaching $251,060.
On behalf of our staff, volunteers and guests, thank you, Calgary!
Our most successful Gala to date
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported The Mustard Seed's fifth annual Gala Dinner on October 16. The event raised an incredible $139,000 to help Calgary's homeless, making it the most successful Mustard Seed Gala to date!
More than 350 people attended the Gala, where they enjoyed a gourmet feast and a memorable private performance by Calgary's own Paul Brandt, who graciously donated his time and talents for the event.
Dozens of generous donors contributed to the Gala's success by providing more than $20,000 worth items for the silent auction. As well, The Family Office kindly provided a trip for two to Belize, valued at $6,000, to be raffled off at the end of the evening.
The Mustard Seed also wishes to thank Grower Direct for the donation of all table centerpieces and Heninger Photography for providing the photo booth.
The money raised through the Gala will go toward helping Calgary's less fortunate through the provision of meals, clothing, shelter, education and employment assistance, mentoring and supported housing.
