Student Involvement

Part of our ongoing vision at The Mustard Seed is to creatively and relevantly educate youth on the issues surrounding homelessness, poverty and social justice through teaching and hands-on experience.

We want to partner and work with youth and youth groups as we multiply God’s heart for the marginalized. Our strategic intent is:

  • To partner with church and community youth through effective and innovative utilization of Mustard Seed resources;
  • To provide meaningful volunteer service opportunities to mobilize youth;
  • To strive towards co-ownership of The Mustard Seed's mission statement;
  • To demolish the darkness and demonstrate the love of Jesus.

Here are some specific programs and hands on experiences The Mustard Seed offers to youth and students

Demo Crew

DEMOCREWDemo crew provides a unique opportunity to explore and gain an understanding of homelessness, poverty and social justice. Through four days and three nights of hands on experience, students ages 13 through 17 will be immersed in Calgary’s inner city and the ministries of The Mustard Seed. Demo Crew takes place for three weeks in the month of July. For more information, promotional materials and registration, please visit www.democrew.ca.

Demo Crew Plunge

DEMOCREW PlungeModeled after Demo Crew, this is a shorter, flexible opportunity for youth groups to come explore and experience homelessness, poverty and social justice. Ranging from an evening to a weekend opportunity, students will be immersed in The Mustard Seed ministries (at our downtown Calgary location or our Mountain Aire Lodge ministry two hours northwest of Calgary). Whether in preparation for a missions trip, or simply to enlarge the worldview of your students, we will work with you to plan the best possible experience to fit your vision and purpose.
