Donation of Securities is a Tax-Effective Charitable Giving Decision
By donating publicly-listed securities to The Mustard Seed instead of cash, donors can help fund our activities while enjoying the benefits of this preferred tax treatment. Donors can expect to receive a charitable tax receipt equal to the trading price of the securities on the date of transfer and pay no tax on increases in value prior to the donation. Tax Tips for charitable giving
Effective January 2007, the Alberta government raised the charitable tax credit for eligible annual donations above $200 by 60 per cent. Including the federal tax credit, Albertans now receive a 50 per cent non-refundable tax credit for every dollar donated over the $200 threshold.
